Our final video is posted on Tony Gorder's blog. Jamison Lamp, Tony, and I decided we wanted to do the top most common ways to die in your house. It sounds graphic but we made it stuff that was completely overly obvious so that it was funny. It turned out really funny, I think. The B-Roll of Jamison and household accidents was really fun.
Our advertisement was aimed toward all those people who get a little ugly fighting for clarence price Christmas presents. All-in-all it turned out really well and I think it was funny. We had some trouble getting the chroma key to work and getting it to post, but it turned out okay.

Minn. man mistaken.
A man wearing a ski mask and carrying an object in his hand that a motorist thought was a gun triggered a lockdown Tuesday morning at Stillwater Area High School, police said. The object turned out to be coffee.
Well, I guess it's good to know that people are more careful, but they also have no trust in people wearing ski masks. Note to self... although SDSU UPD officers wear ski masks... they aren't going to shoot me. Hopefully.

Christmas Lights
In Thurmont, Maryland, they are thinking of identifying those people who are behind on electric bills and wasting energy on christmas lights. Wow.
First of all, I enjoy christmas lights, I really do. But for those people who choose to put up HUGE tacky displays with cheap plastic reindeer, "ho, ho, ho-ing" santa clauses, enormous glittery candy canes, and THOUSANDS of christmas lights... make sure you pay your electric bills.
Now, I know everyone's budget gets a little tight around the holidays, especially now that our economy sucks, but try to prioritize. I recommend paying the utility bill before you spend your money on giant plastic reindeer. It's great if you have the holiday spirit and can't wait to celebrate, but it's December. December is cold. Very cold. If I had to choose, I would prefer having heat over a tacky santa clause on the roof of my house.

Babies galore
Babies are everywhere in the Duggar family. Have you ever seen the show 17 Kids and Counting? They are now going to have to change that to 18. Michelle Duggar just had ANOTHER baby.
18 kids...18 kids...18 kids! This woman must have been pregnant for her entire adult life!! 18 children, 9 months each, that equals 13 and a half years of her life. Pregnant! Do you know how expensive it is to have 18 kids? How do you even pay for that?
Don't get me wrong, I like kids, I think they're amusing and interesting little characters. But 18 in one house is way to much. And she's "thinking of continuing to expand her family." I give these parents some serious brownie points. I'd go nuts!!

Burger King Taste Tests...not so great
Burger King recently went to rural Romania to do a taste test with people who are "unbiased" because they have never had a Whopper or Big Mac.
Basically, these poor farmers in Romania have some of the highest poverty rates and often go to bed hungry. Burger King thought it would be a good idea to go and use them as taste testers when comparing a Big Mac and a Whopper.
First of all, these people are happy to have any kind of food on their table, they don't care if it's a Big Mac or a Whopper. The critics are in an uproar, they believe that what Burger King is doing is morally wrong.
In my opinion, if you want someone's opinion, ask the average person on an American street to do the taste tests. Ask someone who isn't eating it just so they can consume enough calories to prevent passing out. Think about it, it's kind of insulting.

Thanksgiving shooting
This guy knows what it is to make a bad first impression.
His girlfriend's brother shot him the first time they met... holy cow! Violence in never the answer... seriously people

Fire extinguishers no more?
Fire extinguishers have officially been banned from communal areas in flats across the country. Huh?
Apparently it was decided that fire extinguishers encourage people to fight the fire rather than leave the building. I can see where people are coming from when they made this ban, but at the same time I have to disagree with it. I will admit that I think it's rediculous when people try to fight an entire house fire with just an extinguisher. That is stupid and unsafe.
However, what happens when it is just a toaster that catches on fire? That could easily be put out with a fire extinguisher if you catch it before it spreads. Or what if a candle catches your hair on fire? I don't know about you, but if I knew someone who's hair started on fire, I would probably try to put it out. But maybe that's just me.
This is a stupid and unsafe ban.

Dumb lady
A woman in Nevada wasn't the most graceful drunken driver.
Well, the woman in Nevada was driving drunk and stopped to fill her gas tank. However, the woman drove away from the gas pump with the nozzle still in the tank. Way to go smarty.
First of all it's stupid to drive drunk anyways, all your doing is endangering yourself and others, but if you are going to do it I would think that you would try to NOT make it obvious.
Well, unfortunately she wasn't exactly discreet about it. Believe it or not... someone noticed that she tore out the gas tank hose... what a surprise! Why are some people so stupid?

Black Friday
I had fun on Black Friday shopping with my Mom and sister, but when I saw on the news about the man in suburban New York who was trampled to death I was shocked. A pregnant woman was also knocked down and she miscarried... how tragic is that?
Honestly people, are you really going to trample someone to death just so that you can get a clarence price on a new T.V. or camera. What has our society come to when they are more interested in getting cheap stuff than helping out a man who was knocked down. And that poor woman who miscarried, that has to be so tramatizing. I can't even imagine what I would do if I were her.
I personally am embarrassed FOR THOSE people who were in the crowd. They should be ashamed of themselves. An HD TV is not worth someone's life.

4 Christmases
On Thanksgiving night I went and saw 4 Christmases with my family. I thought it was decent. It was definitely nothing exciting but it was entertaining and I did laugh.
I was disappointed, however, that it seemed like all of the funny parts of the movie were shown in the trailers promoting the movie. I hate it when they do that!
I would recommend this movie to anyone, even my Dad had a few laughs, and he is more of an action movie kind of guy. All-in-all... it was decent. I suggest going to a matinee, it might not be worth the full evening price.
You could also just wait a while and then rent it.

Christmas Movies
I enjoy a good Christmas theme movie every now and then, but it seems that once Thanksgiving hits, it is all that you see on T.V. How many times can a person watch Christmas with the Kranks or those stupid Santa Clause movies with Tim Allen?
If your under the age of 6 I could see how this would be no big deal, but they play the movies on adult targeted channels like HBO, TNT, and USA. The only Christmas movie that I truly enjoy is A Christmas Story, the one that always has marathons on Christmas day with little Ralphie who wants a Red Rider BB gun. Who doesn't love that movie?
For some reason, even though I've seen it 100 times, I still like it. The other Christmas movies, however, are just plain annoying and should be kicked off the air. If you want to see a Christmas movie during the holidays, RENT IT!

Sweet routine
You can tell that this video has been edited a little bit, but I think it's still cool. I also think these kids need to get some fresh air.

Don't Taunt a Panda
There was a panda attack at the zoo in Beijing, China this week. It happened to a man who I have absolutely no pity for.
The man jumped the fence because he wanted to "cuddle" with the panda because it was so "cute."
Really? Who does that? Panda bears are not some big stuffed animal, don't play with them! The thing about zoos is that they like to make them look as open as possible so that it doesn't look like they're keeping the animals behind bars. The problem with this is the fact that there are idiots in our world who take advantage of that and then get their limbs chewed off by a bear.
Tip for the guy in China... stay as far away from bears as possible.

Twilight
My friends and I went to the midnight showing of Twilight last night and I found it surprisingly good. The problem with seeing movies that are already books is that you usually seem a little disappointed.
When you read a book you imagine all the characters in a certain way and you get to use creativity, therefore movies on the book always seem disappointing. Normally one thinks "Oh, well those characters are good, but I like my way better."
Through all of this, I still liked the movie. I was a lovely romantic movie. Not only that but it was quite interesting because it was stuck to the main plot, not something you see every day.
Remember the movie about the Divinci Code... TERRIBLE! It was absolutely terribly and it ruined it for me.
I give Twilight an A.

Cool Web site
A friend of mine sent me this link.
It's really cool and I found it really interesting what people had to say about the election. The Web site is great example of the fact that it no longer matters if you voted red or blue, it just matters that we come together as a nation and support or new president. We don't all have to agree on the same political matters, that's just plain unrealistic, it will never happen. But, Obama will be president, like it or not, so make the most of what is put in front of you.
The other day I saw a truck parked in The Union lot that had Obama's face on the side with a big circle with a line through it over it. Seriously people... the election is over. If your candidate didn't win than that's just to bad. There is no use dwelling on something that can't be changed. Listen to what Obama has to say, google his official Web site, I bet you can find at least one thing you agree with, no matter how small and insignificant it seems.
Tough luck republicans, it's time to move on and accept the future. The best part is that it IS the future, you never know what could happen. Maybe you will later find out that you're glad Obama won.

Prisoner escaped
I prisoner in Kentucky apparently escaped on Monday and later came back to the jail begging to come back in.
Well, when you think about it, he probably made the right choice coming back. When he did come back he was covered in dirt from hiding next to the river. If I had to choose between living next to the river and hiding in the dirt because no one will take you in, and having a heated room with food, a library, a church, and a gym... I think I'd choose jail.
In my opinion it was stupid to escape in the first place. The cops are going to find you... and their going to extend your sentence for trying to run. Bad choice.

James Bond
James Bond is as suave as ever in his new movie, Quantum of Solace. I saw it yesterday with some friends and it was great. I would recommend it to couples looking for an entertaining Saturday night. It's a great date movie. It's action packed for the guy and it's still fun for the girl as well.
My dad loves James Bond movies so I remember watching them on TV with him when I was younger and I have loved Bond ever since. Don't get me wrong, I love a good chick flick now and then, but James Bond is one of a kind.
The soundtrack for it was awesome as well, the song they played during the intro was a perfect fit. As soon as the soundtrack is on iTunes I'm going to buy it.
It's worth the $7.50 people...go see it

Movie Review
So I recently saw Zack and Miri, it was hilarious and at the same time completely disgusting. The official title of the movie, that the theaters would not put on their posters is Zack and Miri Make A Porno.
That's right, this movie has taken sex in movies to a-whole-nother level. Now don't get me wrong, I laughed historically through the entire thing, but in the back of my mind I knew it was completely wrong and perverted. The simple and blunt jokes in it were more than enough to make you smile.
It is a Seth Rogan movie, however, so you basically go into the theater expecting some dirty jokes. This however, left me feeling slightly dirty as I left the theater. I've decided that our society is OFFICIALLY corrupted and perverted, and unfortunitly some of it has rubbed off on me, because I did laugh.
For anyone reading this blog that may be conservative in any way, stay away from Zack and Miri Make A Porno... I would guess it's not exactly your kind of movie. It's dirty and crude and remarkably funny.
I would recommend it to those liberals who don't mind seeing culturally inappropriate movies.

Seminar on Saturday
On Saturday morning I went to another Kevin Shlilp seminar, this time it was on the program Flash. It was really interesting because I new almost nothing about the program. I was really glad The Collegian gave me the opportunity to see him speak.
I had no idea that there was so many things you could do with it. I can see how it would be perfect for making Web site ads. It really isn't as complicated as I thought it would be. I hope I can get the opportunity to use it for something. Mostly I just want to play with it and make funny animations. It's really cool.
I've decided that Kevin Shlimp knows basically everything there is to know about Mac programs.

Seminar on Friday
On Friday I went to a seminar in with The Collegian at the SDNA (South Dakota Newspaper Association) to see Kevin Slimp. He is basically the Godfather when it comes to InDesign and Photo Shop. He's amazing.
The seminar was a lot of fun and I learned A LOT. I knew a little about InDesign just from working at The Collegian but because I edit I never get to design pages. I was really fun to learn the different tips and tools but Slimp kept it fun at the same time. It wasn't like we were sitting in some boring class.
He also talked about Photo Shop, which was interesting. In Photography 100 they Klock only teaches you the really simple stuff so it was fun to see all the stuff you could do.
All in all, I was pretty dang excited about the seminar.

My group and I did our video on an alternate ending to the movie Juno. It is posted on Tony Gorder's blog, he played the role of "Bleeker" in the movie, Kelsey Lunn filmed it, and we all edited it together. I think the video turned out pretty cool. Tony and I make a good Juno and Bleeker.

Obama!
So in case you live in a cave or under a rock and didn't know, Obama won! Starting next year we will have ourselves a new president. Thank God, I think we were all pretty dang tired of Bush.
I mean really, when there is a cartoon character on Comedy Central named "Little Bush" you know that there are a few people who don't like you. Now I understand that although a president can never please everyone, it seemed that Bush was losing some serious support.
I was discussing with my friend, who is also an Obama fan, about what happens now. Obama won, and he keeps talking about all these changes he wants to make and that "we can change the world" I am excited to see what happens next.
I just want to see if he is going to keep his promises, which I like to think and hope he will, or if he isn't. Oh...and did you catch that acceptance speech? Now that was one hell of a pep talk!
Another friend of mine said, "Obama is such a smooth talker, he could sell a steak to a vegetarian and a bible to an atheist."
He speaks a whole lot better than Bush does. Thank you to all the Obama voters, it is time for a change.

SNL
I only caught a little bit of Saturday Night Live with my friends last night, but I thought John McCain did a decent job of making fun of himself. Sarah Palin was boring but McCain was surprisingly funny. My friends and I all got a good laugh out of it.
I found the part where he was making fun of his age (as does everyone else) to be hilarious. Nice job McCain, you were impressive! That's a shocker.

People get testy with their campaign sign
In Chapel Hill, N.C., people mean business when it comes to their campaign sign. One man was tired of his McCain/Palin sign being stolen or swapped, so he decided to hook the sign up to an electrical fence power source.
When the neighboord 9-year-old boy came by on Tuesday to switch the signs, he was shocked.
First of all, what kind of 9-year-old goes around switching McCain/Palin signs to Obama signs? This is when you know Election Day is really on the way, when people start sending their kids out to switch signs.
In my opinion, hooking up the electric fence to the sign was a little dramatic, and probably not very safe, but the boy shouldn't have been attempting to switch the signs either.
I think it is ok if people are trying to pass out signs door-to-door, but don't take down the ones people already have up. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so take it down a notch, no one needs to get hurt.

Jennifer Hudson
So Jennifer Hudson, previous American Idol and movie star, has not had it easy these past few days. This blog is a shout out to Jennifer Hudson and her family (even though almost no one reads it). She recently had her mother, brother, and nephew murdered for no apparent reason and she had to confront it while the entire country was watching. Hang in there Jennifer, don't lose faith!
Studio 7 Clip
I can see how the ripple and roll tool would be useful when editing. I don't know how often it would come up while I am editing just these short videos for class but I think it is a good tool to learn. I really like using final cut express and I'm glad I learned how to use it now that I have a flip camera. I will be able to use it even after the semester is over when I am using my flip camera.

Nintendo Wii
Nintendo Wii is officially taking over the world, and I love it. I have never been a fan of video games. In high school I wasn't one of the kids that constantly played Grand Theft Auto, DDR, and Halo. I found them to be a boring waste of time that rotted your brain. Until now.
Not only does Wii not just have tons of games, it now has Wii Fit and Wii Music. The game has everyone is playing it. Video games are no longer just for overweight 16-year-boys with no friends. Elderly people in nursing homes are now using Wii for exercise, 40-year-old soccer moms are using it for Wii Pilates, and everyone in between is playing evertyhing from boxing to guitar hero.
I am curious to see if there will be a game that can top the Wii.

Medical TV Shows
I must admit I am a sucker for medical TV shows, but I do find it interesting to see all the different shows that are appearing lately.
1. Grey's Anatomy- I love it, although I do realize that a good percentage of the stuff that happens on that show would never happen in actual hospital. Oh, and all those interoffice affairs between doctors... in a real hospital you'd probably get fired for that, but it makes for an extremely addicting drama.
2. Scrubs- Hilarious. I like Scrubs because they don't really try to act like real doctors for the majority of the show. Basically they kind of just make fun of the medical world and do ridiculous stuff and ridiculous times.
3. E.R.- Overrated! Kick that show off the air, it's been on for way too long.
4. House- By far my favorite. It is full of drama and although they actually do try act like they know what they're talking about, unlike Scrubs, it is still funny. I mean seriously, who doesn't laugh at House? He's a pill popping, sarcastic jerk that is irresistible to watch.
1. Grey's Anatomy- I love it, although I do realize that a good percentage of the stuff that happens on that show would never happen in actual hospital. Oh, and all those interoffice affairs between doctors... in a real hospital you'd probably get fired for that, but it makes for an extremely addicting drama.

Are voters taking the election a little too far?
So I was reading an article that I found on fark.com and apparently in Pittsburg a woman was robbed at a City Bank ATM. Okay, sucks to be her, but no big deal.
The robber then noticed that the woman had a McCain-Palin sticker on her car and became furious. He then proceeded to carve a "B" into her face. Holy cow... take it down a notch.
When it comes to arguing over politics, this guy took it to a whole new level. My suggestion ... never discuss politics with a stranger. You'll end up will a giant "B" scratched into your face.

Individual Assignment
I did my individual assignment on just the average Tuesday in my life. I took my camera everywhere throughout the day and shot bits and pieces, it was kind of fun to see all the stupid and surprisingly boring things I do.

Miss Teen Lousiana is making her state proud
For those of you who don't know. Miss Teen Louisiana,Lindsey Evans, was recently de-crowned.
Little Miss Teen Louisiana isn't such a good girl after all. She was arrested on Tuesday after walking out of a restaurant and not paying the bill. Oh yeah, and she left her pocketbook behind with her drivers license in it ... and don't forget the 2 grams of pot that were in the pocketbook. Nice job Lindsey, I bet you thought that one all the way through.
Well first of all, who takes their pot into a restaurant? For those of you who are stoners, I would suggest you don't put your pot and your drivers license in the same place. Common sense people.
In a way you do have to feel sorry for the girl. How embarrassing would it be to be de-crowned and have the whole state... and a good number of people throughout the country... know about it?

New movie a rip off?
Some friends and I went to the movie Sex Drive this weekend and found it to be kind of a rip off of Superbad.
I will admit that it was extremely funny and we laughed a lot, but it was very similar to Seth Rogan's movie Superbad.. It was for the most part about young people trying to be cool and for lack of a better word, get a little female attention.
For those of you who were a fan of the hilarious Superbad,, I would recommend Sex Drive to you. It is full of sex jokes and flamboyant humor, with characters making smart remarks toward each other and their lives seem to revolve around getting that "female attention".
In the end, we did find it quite funny and since we went to the matinee it was cheaper, so therefore I thought it was worth the money. I would not, however, recommend the movie if you are extremely conservative.

Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live
I don't know if you heard, but Sarah Palin was on SNL this week. She went on to confront the fact that they previously made fun her. Palin claims she found it funny when SNL made fun of her the first time and enjoyed being on the show to make fun of herself.
I was, however, throughly disappointed. I was hoping she would do something funny or make fun of herself or at least put her foot in her mouth and say something she shouldn't, but none of that happened. All she did was sit there and smile while Amy Poehler made fun of her.
The whole point of guests on SNL is to have them be good sports and make fun of themselves. Sarah Palin was a huge let down, I was looking forward to seeing something funny, and it just turned into her smiling and sitting pretty as she always does.
I was extremely disappointed in the whole thing. Come on Sarah ... be a good sport.

Almost voting time!
It is less than a month away now. Soon we will have a new President ... holy cow. I am excited to see who wins,I think the end of election campaigns is when it gets the most interesting. Both Obama and McCain have strong aspects going for them. They each bring very different things to the table, but in the end it is just a matter of who can get the most voters out.
Things like McCain having trouble with David Letterman are so interesting to see how they handle things. Or what about the way Obama is reaching out to Republicans just as McCain is now reaching out to Democrats. They are in the final stretch of their campaign and are doing just about everything in their power to get votes, from their party and other parties.
It seems that this has been one of America's dirtiest elections. McCain and Obama love to find eachothers flaws and attempt to take them down. When Clinton was still in the running she was definatly a bit of scrappy fighter, she always had something to say, that's for sure.
The campaign is getting hot and I can't wait to see who wins. I am not going to try and call this election, I couldn't tell you who is going to win, but I do encourage everyone to vote.

Madonna and Guy Ritchie
Madonna and Guy Ritchie are filing for divorce after 7 years of marriage. It's a sad day. The bigger question is, however, who gets the money? We all know that Guy isn't exactly raking in the big bucks anymore, and Madonna is worth a supposed $500 million +. The best part ... there is no pre-nup.
I love celebrity gossip, and when it comes to who gets $500 million, it peaks my interest. For the most part, I am on Madonna's side. Basically, because I adore her and can remember dancing around my living room to my older sister's album of her when I was 12.
In a way I do feel kind of sorry for Guy, his career isn't what it used to be and lately he has mostly just been known as the guy who is married to Madonna. I hope Guy does well, and maybe he'll get a little out of the settlement, he'll need it considering Madonna plans to keep the house.

Baby mama ... again?
That's right, Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant again! How is this even possible, she just had a kid like 3 months ago. Seriously, don't you think you would learn your lesson the first time. When she messed up the first time she didn't just get grounded, she got a child! And now a second one, we'll see how that works out. Even her name makes her sound young. "Jamie Lynn," that's a little girl's name if you ask me, not a "grown up" name.
Brittany needs to buy her sister a book and lock her in a basement. The girl is just turning 17 and she's on her second kid. Maybe it makes me sound like a gossip but I can't wait to see what happens next. As a journalist I should probably not believe the things I read in tabloids or on PerezHilton.com, but I choose to anyway.
Mostly I'm just fascinated by how severely a person can truly screw up their life. When I look at her life compared to mine, I wouldn't trade it for the world. So being a millionaire might be nice, but I'm happy not having any children at the moment. Money isn't everything, it helps, but it isn't everything. I mean hey, I'm a broke college student, but I'm still happy!

Virgin Shark Birth
So apparently a black tip female shark in Richmond Virginia in the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center was pregnant with a shark pup with no genetic male material. Or... as the MSNBC calls it, a "Virgin Shark Birth." How sweet is that!
I'm excited to see more information on the "virgin shark birth" and how it will continue to effect the shark population. Apparently asexual sharks are extremely rare but it isn't the first time it's happened. Where have I been, because last time I checked, I thought that it took two sharks to make a baby shark. Well, either way, it's still very rare and probably will have little effect on the population of sharks.
I told my roommate about this and she didn't seem to think it was any big deal, but I think it's extremely cool. The mother shark died of stress-related complications in her pregnancy before the pup was born.
Well, I think it's interesting, even if everyone else thinks it's just an average day.

Gas prices falling!
Gas prices have dramatically decreased this week as the price of a barrel fell to $79. The retail price of gasoline has dropped by 33.3 cents, setting it at $3.15. Sweet!
I realize that the United States economy is currently in a bit of a crisis and I am aware that that is a big problem, but as far as oil prices dropping, I'm okay with that. I'm a poor college student who is short on gas money and my theory is, the cheaper... the better. I can remember when I was in high school and I could get a full tank and a Coke for $20. What happened to that?
An article from USA Today claims that the market for oil may be starting to stabilize, amazing!

Presidential candidate or celebrity?
John McCain and Barack Obama, have they turned from presidential candidate to celebrity? On USA Today there was an article describing the way that our presidential candidates could possibly be compared to the next "American Idol."
I found this article to be extremely amusing and extremely true at the same time. Did anyone catch Obama's last debate? Holy cow, he had fire and pillars and the works. It looked like a Miley Cyrus concert. I will admit that I can understand that Obama is trying to make it into a big deal and catch peoples attention, but he went a little above and beyond don't you think?
It concerns me that there is the possibility that our presidential candidates have become wrapped up in the shiny sight of fame and forgotten that voters are looking for a President, not a celebrity. I think McCain has done a better job of staying down to Earth and remembering to think of the "regular Joes" in America.
Right now I think the campaign is kind of up in the air. For a while I thought Obama had it in the bag because he has such an appeal to so many people. But McCain on the other hand, has a lot going for him as well. It's important to remember that almost 70% of voters are not youth, the people that actually do come out to vote may be more in favor of McCain. Some people don't adapt well to change, and Obama would be a big change. I personally am still rooting for Obama, but McCain is what people are used to. Another republican old white guy.

The Dow below 8,600!
The Dow has officially fallen bellow 8,600. That is the lowest it has been in 5 years. It is also the one-year-anniversary of its all time high. Holy crap. What is happening to our economy? Hopefully we won't have people jumping out windows like we did the last time the stock market had a big crash.
Because I am 20-years-old, I cannot say that I have a fortune invested in the stock market and I am not currently worried about losing thousands of dollars. I am concerned, however, about student loans. With banks having such problems lately I have to question how I, and my fellow students, will get their loan money.
Talk of the drastic drop in numbers is all over the news, you would pretty much have to live in a cave to not know about it, but something on CNN today caught my attention.
Banks, such as Wells Fargo, where I recieve my loans are getting tighter and tighter about dishing out student loans. Is this going to mean higher interest rates for students? That'll be just great, add a little more money to that debt we'll graduate with.
I'm not going to whine about tuition costs and student fees today because I do know that SDSU is much cheaper than other universities in the country. But, high tuition or low tuition, money has to be loaned out students. When I applied for my loan it was a fairly easy process. Have your parent co-sign, get approved, no big deal. But what happens now?
Don't ask me how the economies problems are going to be fixed, I honestly have no clue, but I know I will keep a closer eye on the status of my loan bank.

Breast Cancer
As I previously blogged about, it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and as I was checking my hotmail today I found an article on Christina Applegate and her July mastectomy. She was interviewed about her life after the surgery and what it was like after having such a dramatic change to her body. I found her attitude towards it inspiring.
She admitted to struggling with it but she claims to try and look at the bright side. So in this blog I want to give a shout out to all the women with breast cancer (If anyone reads this). I think what you ladies have been through and the fact that you picked yourself up and moved on is admirable and I don't know if I would have had that strength. You are all amazing women!
I also wanted to inform people that the American Cancer Society's Web site is http://www.cancer.org and they have lists of charity events that will be going on during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, some of which are in South Dakota.

OJ Simpson
So OJ Simpson got himself in trouble again, surprise surprise.
Simpson also managed to have some ironic timing. He was verdict of his kidnapping and armed robbery conviction came 13 years after he was cleared of his charges for murdering his wife and her friend.
I find it interesting that he could really have that bad of judgement. He broke into someone's hotel room, held them hostage, and hired men with guns to go with him. Did he really think he wouldn't get caught?
OJ is finally facing life in prison and I hate to say it but it may be a little bit of pay back. I don't wish prison time on anyone who doesn't deserve it, but OJ committed the crime, and he had it coming anyway. It was only a matter of time before he screwed up again.

Vote!
I think putting this video together was a lot of fun. It was interesting to find how much work goes into something like this.
As far as voting I think it really is important that everyone votes. Not voting is partially just plain laziness. I suppose if you don't know anything about either of the candidates than maybe it's best you don't. I do suggest that everyone try to keep up with the campaigns and remember that your vote really does count. Even if that sound cheesy.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Go Breast Cancer Awareness Month!! For those of you who may not know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My Grandmother died of Breast Cancer before I met her so I have a special place in my heart for doing anything I can to support research for it. I found an article on MSN today about an interesting way to raise money for it.
A hair salon in Lynchburg is putting pink hair extensions in their clients hair for a fee of $10 that goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Personally, I think this is a creative and fun way to get people involved in the Awareness Month. Tons of women get hair extensions, so why not throw a little pink in their temporarily? It'll be different, fun, and show that you care.
I also recently wrote a piece for the Collegian about a bike ride that Sioux River Bicycles and Fitness is having on Oct. 11. The bike shop is having a 9 or 25-mile ride to raise money and their will be a women's health program before the ride. Even President Chicoine is going to ride in the 25-mile race. The article will be out this Wednesday so keep an eye out for it and get as much info as you can about the ride.
I fully support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I encourage everyone to get involved. It's always nice to feel like you made a difference. Even if it's changing the color of a piece of hair or going for a bike ride, you can make a difference. So go for it!

Kids on sugar
An article on Yahoo News explained that 11 different types of cereal carry as much sugar as a glazed doughnut. Holy cow. Kelloggs Honey Smacks are more than 50 percent sugar by weight and on a consumer report of 91 children ages 6 to 16 they poured themselves 50 to 65 percent more than the serving size.
I personally find most children annoying. I can't believe I ever was one, there are very few that I enjoy. They are hyper enough without the sugar, not to mention the obesity problem with kids in America. They do not need a pound of sugar in the morning in order to kick start their day.
My advice, feed your kids some not-so-sugary cereal such as Corn Flakes and sprinkle just a little (emphasis on little) sugar on top to sweeten it up for them. Avoid Honey Smacks and Fruit Loops at all costs.

Escape of the wallaby
In Berkeley, England a wallaby escaped from the local children's zoo. Holy cow, this is hilarious and tragic at the same time. The wallaby was spotted at a nearby hotel. Really? I found this article on the main page of the USA Today Web site and thought it was quite interesting and would make a good blog topic. Especially because I recently saw an article on my hotmail "Today" page poking fun at it.
Although I do feel sorry for the animal that is currently hopping around England like a lost puppy, I think that people should really stop making fun of it. The wallaby went through a hole and over an 8 foot fence, wow. The animal is way out its comfort zone so I think people should stop making fun of it and continue keeping an eye out for it. Although, I'm pretty sure it would be hard to miss a 2 foot wallaby hopping past you on the street.

Nights in Rodanthe
After have a fun night out with all of my friends on Friday night, my fellow girl friends and I decided to see the newest chick flick without the guys.
It originated from the extremely talented Nicholas Sparks' novel. The novel is slightly different, as most movie's based on books are, but it was still great. The movie was definitely a tragic romance and I wouldn't recommend it to most guys. When the lights came on after the movie almost every girl in the theater was wiping tears from their eyes. I think they guys in there that were probably forced to go to by there girlfriends even secretly enjoyed it.
If you are more of a reader than a TV watcher, I would recommend going to hospice and buying used Nicholas Sparks books. The One Stop Last Shop in Sioux Falls, which is constantly advertised on the radio, also has some really good deals on books. I like to buy books there because I see no point in buying a new book you will only read once, when you are a poor college student.
All-in-all I highly recommend that people look into watching Nights in Rodanthe, it's a tear-jerker.

I thought playing with the Ryan Berry interview was really cool. It's fun to see how it all comes together to be a finished product. It's a lot more in depth than people think.

Rugby Players
In a new poll I found at http://www.leaguehq.com.au/, only 53% of rugby players in the NRL would play in a league that banned alcohol. I find this interesting and outrageously ironic. For those of you who don't know, the rugby house in Brookings where most of SDSU's players live, hosts some of the biggest parties in campus. They are extremely well known for the amount of times they have been busted.
Aren't pro sports players supposed to set a good example for today's youth? Well, I guess these players would just call it quits if they were forced to give up the bottle. Granted, it would be almost impossible to enforce this rule, but the fact that they wouldn't even give it a shot is amazing.
I think it's important that these players, who kids want to grow up and be just like, remember that they are a public figure and kids are watching. If your going to hit the bottle, keep it to yourself, but don't publicly announce that you wouldn't play in a league without it.
Rugby players ... maybe they drink so much so that they cant feel the pain of playing a contact sport with no padding on. Interesting.

David Blaine
Stuntman David Blaine recently hung upside down for 60 hours from a 44 foot high platform in New York and the proceeded to free fall before his safety harness pulled him back up.
The hanging upside down part was interesting, but not really that exciting. When people think of David Blaine they think of his rediculously dangerous stunts and insane magic tricks, this was a little more dull than what people expected. David Blaine has done some amazing stunts in his time and people were a little disappointed this time around.
I do feel bad for Blaine though. He is getting all kinds of attacks from the media about what a joke his stunt was, and I say, if it was such a joke, why don't other people do it? I personally couldn't hang upside down for that long. I can't even imagine what kind of headache he had to have had.
Ease up people, hanging upside down is extremely hard on the human body, according to the New York Daily article. The doctor that was quoted in the article claimed that hanging upside down is extremely bad for your kidneys. Take it easy on Blaine, I'm sure he will soon baffel us with another stunt or magic trick.

Car Surfing?
A 10-year-old boy was recently flown to the Primary Children's Medical Center for critical injuries caused by the child standing on the running board of the mother's car. Nice parenting Mom. Apparently he was standing on the running board of their Ford Expedition while holding onto the side-view mirror and handles.
I came across this article while reading fark.com. Normally I find their articles to be hilarious but this one was rather disturbing. Seriously, who lets their kid hang off of a moving vehicle? The child now has damage to his head but is in stable condition.
The mother also admitted to allowing her 8-year-old daughter "car surf" at a speed of about 5 mph and said that she thought it was going to be harmless. Nice... thanks Mom!
Well, due to the woman's remarkably wonderful judgement call, she has been charged with child abuse, driving with a suspended license and no insurance. Way to be responsible.
I myself, do not have any children, but in general, I would like to believe that parents such as this woman should remember that children belong inside cars, not hanging off of them. All in all, it was just a case of plain stupidity. Think twice before letting your kid hang off a moving vehicle.

New kind of beer?
Kid Rock is reported to be coming out with his own beer this spring. Now that is a beer that sounds appealing. If I drink it, maybe, just maybe, I can become a trashy alcoholic in need of a serious shower just like Kid Rock. Isn't that what everyone wants? I wonder what it will taste like? Something that reminds you of sitting around a double-wide trailer, chain smoking and watching soap operas I would guess.
I do know, however, that when the beer finally makes its appearance on shelves it will sell like crazy. Just like Michael Jordan shoes and Miley Cyrus school supplies, people will spend ridiculous amounts of money on it. It's all in hopes to drink the same beer that the one of a kind white trash rock star loves.
Clay Aiken
So incase you live in a cave and haven't heard, Clay Aiken finally came out of the closet. What's the big deal? First of all, it's not like we didn't know already, I mean, he's Clay Aiken! Secondly, who cares?
I don't understand why everyone is making it into such a big deal. Clay Aiken is gay, he finally said it out loud, good for him. Now move on people.
We all need find more productive things to do with our lives.

Movie Review
Friday night I saw the movie My Best Friend's Girl with some friends and found it to be quite hilarious. USA Today gave it a terrible review that I did not agree with at all.
I went to it with three friends and found it to be very entertaining. Dane Cook was once again his gorgeous and funny self, Jason Biggs never fails to have the perfect awkward witty guy act, and Kate Hudson was charming as always.
The movie did have a little nudity and some sex jokes that are definitely not for children's ears, but for college age adults, it was wonderfully entertaining. My friends and I laughed through the whole movie and walked out of the theater smiling as we discussed the movie we had just seen.
I would recommend it to people ages 17 and up as long as you are okay with some dirty jokes. It was one of the better movies I have seen this summer. It does not, however, top the amazing Batman, The Dark Knight, which was by far the best movie I have seen in 5 years and I would recommend it to everyone.
If I see any more new movies I will be sure to keep you posted with my reviews.
Jamison Lamp
I really liked playing with my new Flip Ultra Camera. I think that they will be a fun tool to work with for this class. I'm really glad that we were required to buy this camera over a regular book; it will be much more useful after the semester is over than the $5 I get for a resell at the bookstore will be. I'm excited to use my Flip Camera more this semester.
House fire video
I though learning how to use Final Cut Express and change the green screen was really cool. I didn't have quite enough time to finish the entire video but I did about half of the clips. It's fun to see how many cool things there are to do with the green screen replacement. Sometime in the future I would like to have a moving background. I think that would be fun to watch. I really liked this week's lab.

George Michael gets busted again
As I was reading TMZ today I came across an article saying that the one and only George Michael was once again arrested for possession of drugs. He was arrested Friday in a London bathroom when the suspicious bathroom attendant called the police.
I know that everybody likes to bash George Michael due to his run ins with the law but at heart I am a true fan. He's like a guilty pleasure that you know you shouldn't like, but for some strange reason you still do. I mean think of the songs "Somebody to Love," "Faith," and "Freedom," those are classics that you still hear on the radio today. George Michael music will live on forever in my heart.
I believe that George will probably always be a little bit of a rebel, meaning I have no doubt that he will probably get arrested again in the future, but I still like him. He is just a bit of a restless heart, like the time he got arrested for soliciting sex to an undercover cop in 1998. Because of the greatness of his music, I just overlook these minor flaws and enjoy the songs.

Lindsay vs. Barack
Recently in OK magazine, it was reported that actress, Lindsay Lohan recently offered to help Barack Obama with his campaign. Apparently Obama told the Chicago Sun-Times that Lindsay is "not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a positive for us." Because of his turn down, Lindsay's father apparently freaked out to Fox News about how he couldn't believe Obama turned her down. He basically threw a giant public hissy-fit.
Seriously... Barack Obama could be the next President of the United States and is currently in one of the most crucial times of his campaign. Did Lindsay actually think he would let her help? We cannot forget that the girl was once arrested for possession of drugs, drunk driving, stealing someone's car, resisting arrest, and participating in a high speed chase. Why on Earth would Obama want her as part of a campaign?
My advise to Micheal Lohan is to get a reality check, because unless Obama was intentionally trying to lose, he would never take on Lindsay Lohan.

Saturday Night Live
Tina Fey made an appearance on Saturday Night Live last week and played Gov. Sarah Palin. We all know that lately Saturday Night Live is no where near as funny as it used to be. My personal favorites were Saturday Night Live in the 90s with Chris Farley, David Spade, and other hilarious comedians.
Tina Fey was one of the last truly funny comedians on the show as it slowly faded away into a boring shows and the fact that she made an appearance last week made it funny. I did not see the show live, but I read headlines for it on USA Today online so I went and watch the video clip of it.
Saturday Night Live without Tina Fey is just a waste of air time. Keep flipping the channel, or better yet, follow my example and go out with your friends on Saturday nights.

The Hills
So the reality television show on MTV "The Hills" is officially a waste of time. Some friends of mine are sucked into it and watch it religiously. I happened to be at my friend Debbie's house the other night while she was watching it and I basically almost threw up in my mouth.
Why does anyone care about these girls and the drama that surrounds their lives? They don't act, they don't sing, they don't dance, and they aren't even heiresses (like the waste of space Paris Hilton). All they are is a bunch of spoiled girls from California who have rich daddies.
Their entire lives seem to revolve around their boyfriend of the week and their little cat fights about irrelevant topics. Who cares?
There are people in this world who go to sleep at night with an empty stomach and no roof over their head. There are people with terminal illnesses and people who are struggling to be single parents.
There should be a TV show on those people, and the battles they face every day. They are the people in this world we should be concerned about. Not spoiled rich girls in L.A.

Psycho Lady
One of my favorite Web sites is Fark.com. All summer I had an extremely boring job where half the time I didn't have anything to do, so I would read Fark all day.
Today I was reading it and came across a funny article from the AP Wire about some psycho lady that freaked out on her boyfriend. Apparently her boyfriend wasn't doing the dishes enough so she decided to beat him up. She bit him, broke a picture frame across his face and swung a 2-foot sword at him.
Seriously, a sword? Who does that? Well I think this article just goes to show how many weird people there are in this world. But I do think that weird people give us something to talk about, that's a bonus.
So I'm just giving a shout out to all of those people in the world that do things strange enough to make it on Fark.com. Thanks weird people!
Goldfish
I learned a lot in the lab this week, I enjoyed using Final Cut Expess. This summer I worked on Garden Line and On Call in Pugsley so I have some experience using the camera in studio. I am no expert, however.
In the sentence I made this week two of the words are in the wrong place. It is supposed to be "My killer raccoon ate your stupid harry goldfish." Oops, I'll get better next time. I think I will learn a lot in this class.
I am news/editorial Journalism so I don't usually get to take any broadcast classes or production classes so I think it will be a good experience. I think it will be a fun class, which always makes it easier. Classes that you enjoy always seem easier than classes that you dread going to.

Cell phone fanatics
USA Today online had an interesting story in their "Technology" section about teenagers and cell phones. Apparently 75% of teenagers have cell phones and 40% of them think it is the only phone they will ever need.
Are they right? I would say quite possibly. Personally, I didn't have a cell phone until I was 17 and the only reason I had it was because my parents got a "family plan" with Alltel. I do find it amusing when I see 13-year-olds walking down the street texting their friends. I mean really, what does a 13-year-old have to say through a text that is really that important?
As far as the only phone they will ever need, this may be quite true. Land line phones have mostly just become a hassle and an unnecessary bill to pay, especially as a college student. Cell phones usually give you better long-distance deals anyway and unless you're in the middle of nowhere, you can usually get service anywhere you go. My vote would be for cell phones. Teenagers, however, should be at least 16 and up before they get cell phone privileges and they need to pay the bill themselves.

Sarah Palin's daughter
As you probably know by now, Sarah Palin's, 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, is pregnant. I was watching Jay Leno's Late Show last night and he was making fun of the girl. For some reason, my heart went out to her.
I'm definitely not promoting sex at the age of 17, especially not unprotected sex, but give the girl a break. People are allowed to make mistakes. Yes, it definitely wasn't the wisest choice, but no one is perfect. I'm sure she is under enough pressure as it is. I mean seriously... her mother may quite possibly be the future Vice President of the United States.
When you stop and think about it, it's not an atom bomb, it's just a baby. One of God's greatest gifts, even if it was a little unexpected.
Basically , I think Leno has no room to talk, it's not like he's never screwed up. Just because Bristol happens to have a mother that is a politician does not mean she should be expected to be perfect. Imperfections are what make us human. So shut your mouth Jay Leno!

Fitbit
As I was reading USA today online today I came across the health and fitness articles. A new product is being released, called the Fitbit. It's a small device that tracks the intensity of calories burned and energy used throughout the day.
I find this to be an extremely useful device. Although there have been products similar to this in the past, is seems that this one is smaller and more efficient. It was compared to about the size of an iPod shuffle in the article.
With obesity being such a large problem in the U.S., I think this new product could be very useful to a lot of people. I may put it on my Christmas list for Santa. In my opinion, everyone should try to find time for exercise on a regular basis. It is beneficially to your health in more ways than I can count and I find it to be satisfying.
If anyone does decide to read this blog, I would recommend that you click on the link I have attached. You may find it interesting.

iPods Galore
As I was checking my e-mail this evening I came across an advertisement saying that Apple has come out with yet another iPod. The iPod Nano 4G is the flavor of the week when it comes to musical satisfaction. I later found this article http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10037051-1.html?tag+txt.
As I read this article I realized that everything the writer had to say made me fall even more in love with iPods. The fact that on newer versions you can do everything from listen to music, to watching NBC, to checking your online bank statement dazzles me.
I personally would go into withdrawl symptoms if I didn't have an iPod. I currently own an iPod video 30GB, a version that is now considered ancient compared to the new version. I find it interesting that such a small object has become some a huge obsession to people. I give a serious thumbs up to Steve Jobs, the Apple CEO.
I listen to my iPod while I walk to class, ride my bike, do homework, and get ready in the morning. If I leave my apartment to walk to class and realize I forgot my iPod I will turn around and get it. For some reason I have formed a new belief that I cannot go an entire day without that piece of plastic/metal.
In my opinion, Apple is coming up with even better versions of my favorite gadget. If I wasn't a poor college student I would spring for an upgrade.
